Article Title: Former Member of R & B Group Shalamar to Perform at the 12th Annual Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues Festival on June 15 & 16
Article: R & B music legend Howard Hewett will headline the Music City Jefferson Street Jazz & Blues Festival on June 15-16 along with many other artists during the two-day celebration.
Hewett first came on to the scene when he joined Jody Whatley and Jeffrey Daniels as the trio Shalamar in 1979. The group spawned great hits such as "Second Time Around", "A Night to Remember", "Dancing in the Sheets" and the ballad "This Is For The Lover In You."
After launching his own solo career in the mid-eighties, Hewett topped the charts with hits such as "I'm For Real", "Stay," "I Commit to Love," "Strange Relationship," "Once, Twice, Three Times," and "Show Me." What's more, his original "Say Amen" earned the status of a modern gospel classic, enjoying across the board airplay. And his recorded duets with Anita Baker, Dionne Warwick, Brenda Russell and Stacy Lattisaw won critical accolades.
According to one Rolling Stone writer, Howard Hewett is the premier vocalist in the post - Marvin Gaye era of romantic pop. Like Gaye, Hewett soars to new heights and seduces his audience. It is no wonder he's responsible for selling some ten million records; his voice is irresistible.
Howard Hewett is one of the most talented soul singers of the past two decades. In group settings, as a guest vocalist and as a solo singer, Hewett’s virtually irresistible voice has wrapped itself around material of various quality turning good songs into great records and doing his best to save some of the lesser material with which he has sometimes been saddled as a solo.
The Akron, Ohio born artist has continued to release his music. In 2006 Hewett released a new single, "Enough" with jazz legend George Duke, which has received substantial play on urban contemporary and R&B radio stations.
In October 2008, Hewett released his long awaited Christmas CD "Howard Hewett Christmas" which combines Hewett's soulful warm R&B voice with magical heartfelt classic Christmas songs to create what just may be the best new Christmas album in decades.
Experience one of the most exciting musical events in Nashville at the twelth annual celebration of jazz, food, and fun.
