Article: For years, the Iroquois Steeplechase has captivated tens of thousands of spectators from near and far with its traditions, pageantry, and energy of sport. On May 11, Iroquois Steeplechase attendees can expect a few new surprises. There’s a lot new and a lot happening at the Iroquois this year.
  At this year’s event, The Jackson Family Area and Tailgating Section will offer a FREE family area. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Jackson Family Area will offer games and activities for kids 12 and under who are accompanied by a parent. Families can also purchase a tailgating spot in this area in addition to other services. This year, attendees can also enjoy Texting with Steeplechase allowing instant updates about Steeplechase. With a simple text to TNSteeplechase to 86974 you can receive updates on ticket info. and availability, prerace and race day events, exclusive contests and race day traffic alerts.
  The 2013 Iroquois Steeplechase opens its gates at 8:00am for a fun-filled day of tailgating and races. The first race begins at 1:00pm and the last race ends at approximately 4:30pm with the featured race, the Iroquois. Held on the second Saturday of every May at Nashville’s Percy Warner Park, the Iroquois Steeplechase is the premiere spring race in American steeplechasing and Music City’s traditional rite of spring – typically attracting more than 25,000 spectators. Since being designated in 1981 as the official charity of the Iroquois Steeplechase, the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt has received more than $9 million from the event proceeds.
